Wilfswood Food Forest
In November 2022, we will be planting our fifth community food forest. This food forest will be the first three layers, canopy, mid layer and shrub layer, of a 2-acre food forest in Evercreech, a village near Shepton Mallet.
A community group, called “Wilf’s Wood” purchased a 14-acre patch of intensively used agricultural land at one end of the village, and have been turning it into a nature reserve. They asked the Food Forest Project team to design and plant a food forest within the nature reserve.
They will be using the space with schools and community groups to grow food and help reconnect people to nature.
The food forest will be open to the community to use 24/7 and will grow into a productive space for local people to pick and forage for some of their food!
